First launch

Windows - SmartScreen warning

The app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows will show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen on first launch. This is expected - it happens once per machine, not every time you open the app.

Click More info → Run anyway to continue.

Mac - Gatekeeper warning

Same reason — no Apple Developer signature yet. After unzipping, drag LedgerLocal.app to your Applications folder before opening it — opening it directly from Downloads is what triggers the block most often.

If macOS still shows a warning ("can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" or similar), right-click the app → Open → Open again in the confirmation dialog.

If that still doesn't work, open Terminal and run one of these, depending on whether you've already moved the app to Applications:

xattr -cr /Applications/LedgerLocal.app Use this if you already dragged it into Applications. xattr -cr ~/Downloads/LedgerLocal.app Use this if it's still sitting in Downloads.

Tip: if Terminal says "No such file," you're not pointing at the right folder — drag the app icon itself from Finder straight into the Terminal window after typing xattr -cr (with the trailing space) and it will fill in the correct path for you.

i

After install, the app will show a Machine Code on first launch — a short identifier tied to your device (based on hardware details, not your files). Click Get a license key in the app (or open ledgerlocal.com/activate.html) to have one emailed to you and unlock the app — free for your first year. It contains no statement or financial data, and it's usually instant. Prefer a human? Email support@ledgerlocal.com or message us on WhatsApp with the code.
